Lifestyle: M*A*C MakeUp

Posted by: L

Umm...did you also get this e-mail from M*A*C?

Introducing LillyLand:
"When M*A*C meets the lore and legend of Lilly Pulitzer, you get a funky, fun new chapter in prints and coulurs that make it hip to be in permanent happy land!"

Yea! That's Lilly Pulitzer for M*A*C!!!!

Can't.Stop.Drooling.

More from the site: "A collaboration that feels like the best tongue-in-chic resort retort delivers that joyously bright and refined Key West bloom: new floral patterned Pearlmatte Eye Shadow and Face Powder, plus all the retro-modern colour combinations that Lilly is famous for."

Swoon.

The line includes two shades of nail polish, three paint pots, four lip glosses, four cremeblend blush colors, and a number of countrour brushes and liners.

The products were scheduled to hit stores yesterday, January 7th. I will be high-tailing it to the Collection this weekend to drain my bank account check it out!

First impression: The perfect antidote for this dreary and notoriously gray season we are in now. (If you have not yet guessed, since the words "Resort 2010" have grazed past my little green eyes, I have been daydreaming of everything fabulous that is synonmous with temperatures over 65°F. Lilly Pulitzer is at the top of that list. Followed closely by Mimosas for breakfast.)

You can order the cosmetics online, but I'm more of a tester-outer when it comes to cosmetics. Sephora? A playground.

Lifestyle: Trend Report - Nautical Inspired (2 of 2)

Posted by: L

Ok, sorry Readers! I know this post is a day late but I was...um... busy(?) yesterday. Yea, I have no excuse: I was loafing and doing arts and crafts!! AND LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT! Thank you for your e-mail reminders! : )

But, ahem, onto the fashion post for today. What did you all think of the nautical accessories?? Are you going to try them??

For those of you ready to take it to the next step, I am going to present you with some options that I love. Let me know what you think!

Jovonna Ann-Marie Sailor Jumper, $90.00 (available via TopShop)

Gap Sailor Trousers, $49.99 (heather gray) and $39.50 (dark indigo, pictured) (was $59.50)

Of course, a number of these options are a little higher end, and may be too much to spend on a trend that you might be "iffy" about. Be sure to look at retailers like Forever 21 to take a couple pieces out for a test drive. I know the Rodarte collection at TarJay has a blue and white striped shirt (with a boatneck!) that you can try for $16.99. And, you might be thinking, "Ugh. I cannot do horizontal stripes!" So, keep it simple with a basic navy top (available everywhere), white pants (or capris, or a skirt!), and a red patent wedge. Match it with an anchor necklace from yesterday's post and there you go! Oohh, so cute!

Ay ay mates!

And, coming next week: Lifestyle: Trend Report - Neutrals

Lifestyle: Trend Report - Nautical Inspired (1 of 2)

Posted by: L

Thank you, Chanel! (Really you, Uncle Karl!!)

The Chanel Resort 2010 Collection has brought back nautical inspired pieces. Per a Style.com editor, "the sequence took off into matelot – and gondolier-inspired stripes, interpreted in long-line fine-knit cardigans and playful beachwear with funny red and white striped wedge booties."

(Happy chair dance ensues.)

While the trend has me dreaming of being back on Newport for a quick beach get-a-way, or a long weekend in Palm Beach (swoon), you can bring some of that feeling right into your wardrobe now!

(Frantically going through my closet, looking for all the Lilly Pulitzer items to wear right.this.second!)

Ok, ahem, back to the topic at hand:
I'm going to have a couple posts for you lovely Readers on this trend. Today, we'll ease you non-prepsters into the nautical trend with some accessories and then, once you've warmed up to it, tomorrow will feature ways to incorporate nautical into your wardrobe. I tried to include pieces that are do-able for the working girl (and her "budget"...hate that word!).

Ready?

First up: A cheeky Marc Jacobs accessory (haha, this one is really just for giggles!)
...but you could get the earrings for $38.00!

And, lastly, from Miss Prep, herself, Miss Kate Spade:

Will you be taking the plunge (ha ha) into the nautical trend this year?

Another Crass Post, Brought to you by L!
And this post is cordially dedicated to you, T. Consider it an advance on your CLE credits. This post shall be worth +1hr. Document and receive.

Background: In one previous post, L was discussing staying friends with your ex and the appreciated "complimentary beej" that some times (ok, probably more often than not) comes in the awkward phase where you're trying to strike the balance of being friends with your ex, carrying along their excess baggage, and moving forward.

T approached L and did not quite know what a "beej" was.

(Ok, let's pause right there for a moment and get this straight so T does not get made fun of on the playground: He had never seen the act of fellatio spelt that way. You know, phonetically. Not that he didn't know what a "beej" was...per se. Moving on. T, your credibility has been saved. Thank me later.)

Now, to come to T's and other's rescue for possible future posts, L has just so happened to stumble upon this gem: 6 Bits of Sex Slang To Make You A More Cunning Linguist.

(Yea, read that title fast and get the giggles, too. It's Ok.)

A little preview for your reading pleasure:
Sascrotch
Definition: Pubic hair that’s been allowed to grow wild; pubic hair that has the potential to scare off potential sexual partners
Example: “If I don’t take care of this sascrotch pronto, I won’t be getting lucky tonight!”

Ok, now get going on your vocab lesson! Quiz Friday!

B & L are definitely going through an "updating our wardrobe" phase, and understand that many of you are too: trying to go from college and casual to polished professional. Or, for some of our more sophisticated readers already settled in their careers, trying to maintain and update their wardrobes.

Luckily for us, everything old is new again and many items can be repurposed by maybe adding a cardigan over a dress or summer-ish cami and adding a belt around your waist to almost any outfit. But, lets face it, sometimes our clothes just need a little something else... a little added oomph that makes a world of difference.

What is that oomph?

Underneath a perfect and nearing-perfect wardrobe are a few essentials that should not be left forgotten: shape-wear.

No, we're not talking just updating your brassieres and undies, but an enhanced way to make all your clothes look great. Think: Spanx and beyond!

Lucky for us, the girls at Glamour magazine have put together a great slideshow that showcases all of the options and even break it down depending on your body type!

Click here to start the "World's Greatest Dress Your Body Tricks" slideshow.

And, be sure to check back tomorrow for more on updating your wardrobe with a Workplace Do's and Don'ts featuring how you should adhere to your company's dress code.

Has anyone logged on Facebook recently and been really, really, creeped out by the side-bar ads, like this one?

Maybe it's for Boost Mobile. (Is that even still around??)

L thought they tailored the ads to the content you put in your profile? (Sometimes she has ads for jewelry or Springsteen tickets.)

Or, maybe Facebook knows that L is on Ike's page too many times throughout the day.

The Only Kind of "D-Bag" You Want in Your Life

No, there's not a new generation of orange skinned, spikey hair, big muscled, tatt'ed guys out there to open your heart to, ladies, so relax! (Please, neither B nor L would recommend you get hooked up with that kind of D-Bag!)

No, no, no. Ugh.

Enter: Tod's Italian Leather D-Bag. Chic Italian artisanship intertwined with an effortless appeal.

Tod's bags have been around since the 1970s when they started appearing in American department stores. Today, they're known for their casually elegant styling and timeless appeal.

Tod's classic styling is sure to stay with you season after season. (So breathe easy, Recessionistas!)

Pictured above is the D-Bag Shopping tote from Tod's Fall- Winter 09/10 collection, available at Saks and online at TODS.com.

Lifestyle: Haute Spot - Boston!

Boston: Once the premiere center for clothing manufacturer before New York became every girl's East Coast powerhouse.

But, all is not lost: Boston Fashion Week kicked off on Friday, September 25th!

There are a lot of neat events going on during the week, but be sure to check the site and RSVP where necessary. But, be warned: for attendance a lot you're going to have to open your wallet for admission!

L's picks for the week2:

9/29 Tuesday
Macy's hosts FGI Boston & The Launch Designers
@ Macy’s Downtown Crossing
6-8pm
"Macy's celebrates Boston Fashion Week by hosting Fashion Group International of Boston and the five new fashion faces to watch in Boston! Enjoy refreshments, live models wearing original fashions, great music and an opportunity to meet the designers!"

9/30 Wednesday
Denise Hajjar Boston - Fall/Winter 2009 Collection of Day & Eveningwear
@ the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel
6pm
"A designer runway show promoting and supporting the efforts of Dress For Success - Boston. The mission of Dress for Success is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life."

Let us know if you attend, what you attend, and your thoughts on it!

(L is just reading through the site, and, le sigh. It will never be Bryant Park.1)

1. For some things, the snobbery remains.
2. And, alas, more reasons why the night program is rough. Missing out on anything remotely fun M-Th.

When you think of the "taste" of Boston, what do you think?
Maybe that Italian dinner from the North End? Followed by a Mike's pastry? (Or Modern Pastry for the Mike's rivals!) How about oysters from Union Oyster House? (No, the dirty water of the Charles does not count as a "flavor"!)

Well, ABSOLUT® Vodka has created and launched ABSOLUT® BOSTON Vodka, infused with black tea and elderflower. Cute, huh? Historically significant, yes.1 Fitting for the city, L thinks!

Boston is the third city to be featured by ABSOLUT®, after ABSOLUT® NEW ORLEANS (2007) and ABSOLUT® LOS ANGELES (2008).2

To give back to the city it celebrates, $50,000 from the profits of the sale of ABSOLUT® BOSTON will be donated to the Charles River Conservancy – a nonprofit dedicated to the renewal and stewardship of the Charles River Parklands.

Be sure to hit up your local packy to pick up your very own limited edition bottle, featuring the famous left-field wall and let us know what you think! Sipping on a cocktail made with the Boston-inspired vodka will definitely add a touch of the City to your night out, or night in.

Now, go get your alki on (responsibly). And, please take a cab.

Be sure to check back Thursday for a drink recipe featuring ABSOLUT® BOSTON!

1. Too bad the Boston Tea Party Ship isn't up!!
2. Ha! Take that New York!

Ok, we all have nights where we'd rather sit at home in our comfy pjs, hair in a messy bun, and face sans makeup, than get all dolled up to wait in line at bar, keep your very best Orbitz smile on, and get your cute shoes "accidentally" trampled on.

Well for nights like that, when you're all caught up on the DVR or just looking for something new to try, check out OMGPOP.COM, where you can play online games for free! (Yea, it can definitely bring out your inner chic geek.)

(They all have super cute names and graphics!)

Lifestyle

Because Tuesday is the "new" Monday this week, enjoy a few laughs before getting back into the grind!

B & L guarantee you'll likely be able to relate to a handful of the thoughts!

Random Thoughts from People 25-35 Years Old:

I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.

More often than not, when someone is telling me a story, all I can think about is that I can't wait for them to finish so that I can tell my own story that's not only better, but also more directly involves me.

Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.

I don't understand the purpose of the line, "I don't need to drink to have fun." Great, no one does. But why start a fire with flint and sticks when they've invented the lighter?

Have you ever been walking down the street and realized that you're going in the complete opposite direction of where you are supposed to be going? But instead of just turning a 180 and walking back in the direction from which you came, you have to first do something like check your watch or phone or make a grand arm gesture and mutter to yourself to ensure that no one in the surrounding area thinks you're crazy by randomly switching directions on the sidewalk.

That's enough, Nickelback.

I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger.

Is it just me, or are 80% of the people in the "people you may know" feature on Facebook people that I do know, but deliberately choose not to be friends with?

Do you remember when you were a kid, playing Nintendo and it wouldn't work? You take the cartridge out, blow in it and that would magically fix the problem. Every kid in America did that, but how did we all know how to fix the problem? There was no internet or message boards or FAQ's. We just figured it out. Today's kids are soft.

There is a great need for sarcasm font.

Sometimes, I'll watch a movie that I watched when I was younger and suddenly realize I had no idea what the f was going on when I first saw it.

I think everyone has a movie that they love so much, it actually becomes stressful to watch it with other people. I'll end up wasting 90 minutes shiftily glancing around to confirm that everyone's laughing at the right parts, then making sure I laugh just a little bit harder (and a millisecond earlier) to prove that I'm still the only one who really, really gets it.

How the hell are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?

I would rather try to carry 10 plastic grocery bags in each hand than take 2 trips to bring my groceries in.

I think part of a best friend's job should be to immediately clear your computer history if you die.

The only time I look forward to a red light is when I’m trying to finish a text.

A recent study has shown that playing beer pong contributes to the spread of mono and the flu. Yeah, if you suck at it.

LOL has gone from meaning, "laugh out loud" to "I have nothing else to say."

I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger.

Answering the same letter three times or more in a row on a Scantron test is absolutely petrifying.

Whenever someone says "I'm not book smart, but I'm street smart," all I hear is "I'm not real smart, but I'm imaginary smart." (This would probably be "constructive smart" in law school!)

How many times is it appropriate to say "What?" before you just nod and smile because you still didn't hear what they said?

I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars teams up to prevent a dick from cutting in at the front. Stay strong, brothers!

Every time I have to spell a word over the phone using 'as in' examples, I will undoubtedly draw a blank and sound like a complete idiot. Today I had to spell my boss's last name to an attorney and said "Yes that's G as in...(10 second lapse)..ummm...Goonies."

What would happen if I hired two private investigators to follow each other?

While driving yesterday I saw a banana peel in the road and instinctively swerved to avoid it...thanks Mario Kart.

MapQuest really needs to start their directions on #5. Pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood.

Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died.

I find it hard to believe there are actually people who get in the shower first and THEN turn on the water.

Shirts get dirty. Underwear gets dirty. Pants? Pants never get dirty, and you can wear them forever.

I would like to officially coin the phrase 'catching the swine flu' to be used as a way to make fun of a friend for hooking up with an overweight woman. Example: "Dave caught the swine flu last night."

I can't remember the last time I wasn't at least kind of tired.

Bad decisions make good stories.

Whenever I'm Facebook stalking someone and I find out that their profile is public I feel like a kid on Christmas morning. 546 pictures? Don't mind if I do!

Is it just me or do high school girls get sluttier & sluttier every year?

If Carmen San Diego and Waldo ever got together, their offspring would probably just be completely invisible.

Why is it that during an ice-breaker, when the whole room has to go around and say their name and where they are from, I get so incredibly nervous? Like I know my name, I know where I'm from, this shouldn't be a problem....

You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you've made up your mind that you just aren't doing anything productive for the rest of the day.

Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after DVDs? I don't want to have to restart my collection.

There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far.

I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten page research paper that I swear I did not make any changes to.

"Do not machine wash or tumble dry" means I will never wash this ever.

I hate being the one with the remote in a room full of people watching TV. There's so much pressure. 'I love this show, but will they judge me if I keep it on? I bet everyone is wishing we weren't watching this. It's only a matter of time before they all get up and leave the room. Will we still be friends after this?'

I hate when I just miss a call by the last ring (Hello? Hello? Dammit!), but when I immediately call back, it rings nine times and goes to voicemail. What'd you do after I didn't answer? Drop the phone and run away?

I hate leaving my house confident and looking good and then not seeing anyone of importance the entire day. What a waste.

When I meet a new girl, I'm terrified of mentioning something she hasn't already told me but that I have learned from some light internet stalking.

I like all of the music in my iTunes, except when it's on shuffle, then I like about one in every fifteen songs in my iTunes.

Why is a school zone 20 mph? That seems like the optimal cruising speed for pedophiles...

As a driver I hate pedestrians, and as a pedestrian I hate drivers, but no matter what the mode of transportation, I always hate cyclists.

Sometimes I'll look down at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is.

It should probably be called Unplanned Parenthood.

I keep some people's phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call.

Even if I knew your social security number, I wouldn't know what do to with it.

Even under ideal conditions people have trouble locating their car keys in a pocket, hitting the G-spot, and Pinning the Tail on the Donkey - but, I’d bet my ass everyone can find and push the Snooze button from 3 feet away, in about 1.7 seconds, eyes closed, first time every time...

My 4-year old son asked me in the car the other day "Dad what would happen if you ran over a ninja?" How the hell do I respond to that?

It really pisses me off when I want to read a story on CNN.com and the link takes me to a video instead of text.

I wonder if cops ever get pissed off at the fact that everyone they drive behind obeys the speed limit.

I think the freezer deserves a light as well.

I disagree with Kay Jewelers. I would bet on any given Friday or Saturday night more kisses begin with Miller Lites than Kay.

B & L totally have a date to see "Post Grad," starring Alexis Bledel (the sweetheart from Gilmore Girls)!

"Post Grad" is the story of a girl who, like many of us, had to move back home after graduating college -- in with her parents and with out a job.

It seems to be a cute rendition of what most of us are going through: trying to find the right job, the right guy, and the right path in life. (And, a carefree way to spend an afternoon and to remember that we're not the only ones trying to figure it all out!)

Check out the official trailer below, from YouTube:

"Post Grad" opened Friday, August 21 here.

Will you go see it?

Lifestyle

Now, this post is a definite toss up between a "Loves It!" and a Lifestyle post: L just downloaded the "ShopStyle" app for her iPhone: definitely loves it (!) but L uses ShopStyle too frequently for just a "Loves It!" shout out.

For all us tech-savvy fashionistas that have come to use ShopStyle for clothes, accessories, shoes, and home goods, you're going to love the app!

You can browse through hundreds of items, by Brand, type of Clothing, Handbags, Shoes, Accessories or Jewelry. Once in your selection, you can narrow down the search by style, items that are on sale, price range, and even enter in key words.

So, you need a new pair of heels for your date on Saturday? No problem! Browse through ShopStyle app on the T ride home and order them right then and there on your phone! (Also great for stealthy at-your-desk purchases without going on the company computer!)

How easy!

B & L are currently utilizing the remainder of the summer, now that Summer Session is OVAH1, to get our lives in order.

Our new role model2: the law school's Dean.

Every time we see her, she is always just so put together: from her coordinated outfit - complete with designer jewelry and heels - to the eloquent way she can hold the room's attention when she speaks (and, not just for her status, but because she really has something to say) down to her perfectly manicured nails (french tips no less!3).

B & L have taken note and shall4 aspire to be similar, getting our affairs in order.

Who is your professional role model? Let us know!

1. Said, of course, in Tricky Dick's Boston accent.
2. Mish O. is still at the top, we just have new inspiration.
3. Quote from the famous movie, Legally Blonde, "Never underestimate the power of a woman with a law degree and a french manicure." ("Harvard" omitted.)
4. Said in the positive.

Recently, L stumbled across this checklist on-line: 20 Things Women Should Do Before The Age of 25.

Here is the list of the 20 things women should do before the age of 25 and getting married. So for younger women out there, this is a good list and pretty much right on. And for you guys that like dating younger women, you should always run through this checklist:

1. Live by herself for at least a year.
2. Live with someone else for at least a year.
3. Recover from a broken heart.
4. Have a vacation fling.
5. Take a road-trip with a group of girlfriends.
6. Relish sleeping in a queen-sized bed by herself.
7. Get her finances in order.
8. Learn to love her body.
9. Have sex with at least one person she’d never want to marry (or introduce to mom).
10. Find reliable birth control.
11. Pay off as much credit card debt and student loans as possible.
12. Spend way too much on a something frivolous.
13. Exorcise all past relationship demons.
14. Travel somewhere exotic.
15. Establish a strong circle of friends.
16. Forgive her parents for not being perfect.
17. Have at least one night she can’t quite remember.
18. Experience some really bad first dates.
19. Find hobbies that fulfill her.
20. Celebrate her 25th birthday!

L has 9 months to knock a lot of these off the list1. For certain numbers one and two shall not be happening. Before reading this, her "before 25" list looked a little something like this:
  • Go on another girls vacation..to Vegas! or someplace equally as exciting. However, this time, we're totally staying at a Four Seasons-type resort and not roughing it without hot water and 24/7 concierge. No.Thank.You. (LP, I know you have my back on this one!!)
  • Buy self Louie bag for 25th b-day because it's a milestone.
  • Learn to speak Italian.

She has successfully "crossed off" the following from her own working list:
  • Working a real, grown up job;2
  • Quitting said grown up job after 2+ years to go to law school.
And, has added a "To Do Before the Age of 30" working list:
  • Pass the Bar!
  • Own real estate. Preferably something cute with exposed brick. Loves it.
Like L, B has a way to go with this list - although that won't stop her from trying! Realistically 1 and 2 won't be "crossed off" by the time she's 25, maybe by the time she's 30? Here's to hoping! At least she has some things checked off from her own list3:
  • Live in a foreign country. Granted it was only a few months but that still counts, rights?
  • Go on a road trip. B's been blessed and has gone on two thus far with some amazing girls!

What are your goals and aspirations? Have you completed anything major that deserves a "snaps!"? Let us know!

1. I guess some of it could be possible. I mean, women carry babies to term in the same amount of time...
2. Complete with company BlackBerry and corporate AmEx. (And, refusal to wear the Bluetooth headset.)
3. B didn't really have a list she just thought of things she experienced to say she "crossed off". Trust though, B will be putting together a list now and she already has two things "crossed off"!
